The Figueroa Agosto investigation team has announced that Ricardo Ivanovich Smester is also under arrest in connection with the case. He is suspect of being a front for Puerto Rican drug trafficking fugitive Jose David Figueroa Agosto. Smester reportedly drove a black Porsche said to belong to the Puerto Rican.
As reported in El Dia, the authorities confiscated a gun found in Smester's possession that had been illegally authorized by an unnamed Police colonel. The gun was sold by Colonel Jose Amado Gonzalez Gonzalez, who was murdered on 24 December.
Also confiscated from Smester was an ID in which he appears as a police agent, in the rank of major of the Municipal Police, but the municipality is not specified.
