President Leonel Fernandez hosted 27 directors and players of the New York Yankees at the Presidential Palace yesterday. They brought with them the 2009 World Series trophy won by the Yankees. Attending were executive vice president Felix Lopez, players Robinson Cano, Damaso Marte, Edward Ramirez, Francisco Cervelli and coach Tony Pena. "This is an unprecedented event. Up till now, no international sports organization had ever come to the DR to symbolically share their trophy," said Fernandez. He said that the trophy is from the most successful sports organization ever, making it an honor and distinction that we value and appreciate in all its magnitude.
