Former Army major Bienvenido Antonio Savinon Aybar, in whose name the license plate of the SUV from which the shots were fired to kill former Police colonel Jose Amado Gonzalez Gonzalez was registered, was on the Presidency payroll for "intelligence" operations, as reported in El Dia. He received a separate check, known as "specialization" for additional services.
Administrative Secretary of the Presidency Luis Manuel Bonetti said that the former major has now been removed from the payroll. He said that the Army did not inform his department that Savinon had been removed from the force. Savinon was dismissed after he was deported from the United States for drug trafficking. Bonetti confirmed that Savinon received a check for RD$7,000 to RD$10,000 a month, in addition to his normal wage, according to Listin Diario.
Diario Libre reports that he was dismissed from his job at the Presidency department as a member of the National Department of Investigations last week.
Bonetti said he was not aware how long Savinon Aybar had been on the Presidency payroll.
