Too many C-sections

50% of all births at the leading maternity hospitals in the country in 2009 were Caesarian section deliveries, as reported in El Dia. Dr. Justo Jose Nicasio said that the large number of C-sections increases the maternal maternity rate. He said that at the Hospital de la Mujer Dominicana, of 2,053 births in 2009, 1,022 were delivered by C-section. At the Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia Maternity Hospital, the largest in the country, of 20,000 births, 50% were by C-section.
