The bodies of a Dominican woman, Laura Ricart and a Spaniard, Jorge Javier have been recovered by the Navy and the Naval Auxiliary Volunteers Corps. The authorities have pledged to continue searching for two other people, Plinio Jacobo (Laura Ricart's husband) and an American, Robert Wagner, who went missing at sea off the south coast of the DR last Thursday. The authorities have not found the 24-foot boat Aqualum that carried the missing persons.
The bodies were found 11 miles south of Guayacanes, in San Pedro de Macoris province on Sunday. The first was found at 11:20am and the second at 12:50pm, some 10 miles apart. The bodies were transferred to the wharf at San Andres, Boca Chica where they were identified by relatives and later taken to the Forensic Pathology lab for autopsy.
Navy public relations officer Colonel Juan Bienvenido Crisostomo Martinez confirmed the location of the bodies and promised that the search by naval and airborne units would continue on the instructions of Navy chief of staff Vice-Admiral Homero Luis Lajara Sola.
The people who disappeared had been members of the Zar-Par Marina Club for about a month and a half, and according to the manager Wilber Baez, they normally went out on weekends.
More than 15 air and sea units continue the search for Jacobo and Wagner. A US Coast Guard Cutter from San Juan, Puerto Rico also joined in the search. According to reports, the boat's occupants made a phone call saying that the vessel was taking on water.
