La Altagracia province prosecutor Lucas Perez Jose says that of 1,970 criminal processes heard last year in his province, 1,383 were related to drug trafficking. He said that the authorities confiscated 1,250 kilos of drugs, including 1,200 kilos of cocaine. "Before there was talk here of one kilo, but now 300, 200 or 100 kilos are being confiscated. That means that the business is big, and the authorities need to focus on fighting crime and that citizens need to cooperate," he told Hoy. He spoke while delivering his report for 2009.
