Free medical operations

Doctors from the Children's Hospital of Michigan have provided free health-restoring surgery for 13 children with heart problems at the Center for Advanced Medicine and Telemedicine (Cedimat) at Plaza de la Salud, a privately-run state hospital. The cost of the operations is estimated at US$50,000 each. The children were aged between 2 months and 13 years. Dr. Daniel Turner led the Michigan medical team. The initiative is in its eighth year, as reported in Listin Diario. Dr. Janet Toribio, heart specialist at Cedimat, said that every year 900 children are born with heart defects in the DR.
