A couple arrested with almost one million pseudoephedrine pills and 250 kilos of phenylacetic acid, both used in the manufacture of illegal drugs, have been released on bail. Magalys Esther Rivas Sosa and Nicanor Gonzalez were initially sent to jail for 3 months while their case was being investigated. As reported in Diario Libre, the couple visited the National Drug Control Department (DNCD) to secure the return of 2 Mercedes Benz vehicles, a Ford Explorer and a Range Rover SUV. The DNCD had also confiscated a penthouse at Calle Salina at the corner of Monte Rios in Santo Domingo's Paraiso sector. The newspaper reports that the couple is known to have sent some 90 kilos of methamphetamine, a synthetic drug, to Guatemala and Honduras. Neither the judge who authorized bail nor the DNCD authorities could tell reporters whether the couple has left the country.
