The Santiago de los Caballeros District Attorney has announced that the people who have been linked to the deaths of the television cameraman Normando Garcia (known as "Azabache") and taxi driver Romero Vasquez on 9 August 2008 have been formally accused. Lead prosecutor and District Attorney Jenny Berenice Reynoso told reporters that car dealer Jaime Flete Garcia (Flete Motors), Jose Amauris Santiago and Jose Agustin Espinal are responsible for the murders of Azabache and the taxi driver. The DA said that a conflict arose between Flete Garcia and the cameraman as the result of an incident in the car dealer's place of business, in which the car dealer seriously wounded a customer.
Reynoso said that the businessman wounded young Julio Cesar Caraballo and forced the company's watchman to take the blame. She added that the cameraman filmed a video showing that the person responsible for wounding the customer was not the watchman at the dealership, but the owner, and he insisted on revealing this.
According to the District Attorney, when Flete Garcia was arraigned and subjected to coercive measures, the cameraman took some videos and insisted that he was the aggressor and not the watchman, at which point some of the car dealer's bodyguards tried to beat up the cameraman. The plot to kill the cameraman resulted from these incidents.
The DA showed reporters the car used in the murders and the weapons that were confiscated using official warrants. Finally she showed video made by a hidden camera in the place where the victim was washing his car, and it showed the murders in the white Camry, when Azabache fell to the ground and then gets up and runs and the killers pursuing him and killing him. It also shows when the killers got back into the vehicle and left the scene.
