The 246th Meeting of the Central American Monetary Council approved the formation of a Council of Finance Ministers of Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic yesterday at Punta Cana. The idea was proposed by Dominican Finance Minister Vicente Bengoa and has the goal of establishing a permanent forum of information exchange about the development and coordination of fiscal policies in member countries. A report by Diario Libre indicates that the meeting in Punta Cana is sponsored by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and is prior to the V Regional Annual Conference on Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic. It is being attended by Central Bank governors and Banking Superintendents of the countries that are taking part.
