Three Dominicans are reported to have died in the Port-au-Prince catastrophe. Two of these are engineers Jose Rafael Medina and Guillermo Pena, and financial director Miguel Daniel Montalvo, of the Munoz, Mera and Fondeur engineering firm. The company reported its general manager and its accountant had been killed in the earthquake, when their own offices were seriously damaged. Dozens of Dominicans sought refuge at the Dominican Embassy in Petionville, which withstood the quake. An estimated 16,000-20,000 Dominicans are living in Haiti.
