In her editorial column in today's Diario Libre, Ines Aizpun criticizes the soap opera slant the authorities appeared to be giving the case against fugitive drug trafficker, Puerto Rican Jose David Figueroa Agosto during a press conference held in Santo Domingo on Monday. "The case of Figueroa Agosto is a narco-political-military scandal," she writes. "It is not a sex scandal, because consensual sexual relations between two adults are their business. Neither you nor me are affected by whom Figueroa Agosto went to bed with. But we are affected, and to a huge extent, by which politicians and which military were protecting them, and hiding and/or doing deals with them," she emphasizes. She writes: "The tattoos of the fugitive or the stretch-marks of his muse are not our business. We only want to know which civil government and military officials allowed this gang to "work" so productively for so many years, and for them to be judged. The excuses, or exceptions because of friendship, trust or services provided, are not valid here. What is at play is the state of law, that is our future."
