Miguel Cocco, director of the Department of Customs (DGA), has announced that as of Saturday, 1 July Customs will not be applying the 13% surcharge on the CIF value of imports and will not be requiring the payment of a consular invoice (2006 Budget Law 17-06 and Customs Autonomy Law 226-06). But as of Monday, 3 July it will be levying a new 0.4% on CIF imports, for customs services (Law 226-06). The department commits to dispatch merchandise in a maximum of 48 hours during the first year and in a maximum of 24 hours the second year. The measure does not apply to merchandise under special conventions.
