While Haitians try and find out about the plight of their families, Dominicans are going out of their way to help. Dozens of collection centers are cropping up all over the country to accept donations. The Red Cross has already made two trips into Haiti with hundreds of food rations and medicines. On the third trip they are planning on establishing a camp and carry out studies on the ground in order to evaluate the risk factors. Meanwhile, at the Jesuit-run Centro Bono, donations continued to flow in yesterday. Around 11am a truck arrived with a load of bottled water. More than a thousand volunteers are working at these centers, including 200 at the center located on Jimenez Moya Avenue, next to Inazucar, and more are expected on the weekend. Centers were also set up at the UASD and UNPHU universities.
Yesterday 49 Civil Defense rescue workers from Santiago left for Haiti. The Adventist Agency for Development and Resource Assistance also set up a collection center and will leave for Haiti today with medicines and psychologists from the Dominican Republic, Spain and Canada.
