The Ministry of Education says that 111 public schools in the DR were affected to some extent by Tuesday's earthquake. Education Minsiter Melanio Paredes says that two schools, Escuela Victoria Pena in San Cristobal and the Liceo Jaime Amable Mota in Los Mina (Santo Domingo East) suffered structural cracks. The authorities, nevertheless, said that the damage is not serious enough to suspend classes that have since resumed at these schools. The ministry says that repairs are needed at public schools nationwide: Santo Domingo (7), Barahoana (4), San Juan de la Maguana (5), Azua (9) San Cristobal (9), San Pedro de Macoris (1), La Vega (21), Hermanas Mirabal (9), Santiago (1), Valverde (11), Puerto Plata (9), La Altagracia (1), Montecristi (11) and Maria Trinidad Sanchez (2).
