More than 200 flights are arriving and leaving the small general aviation airport of La Isabela (AILI) at El Higuero in northern Santo Domingo each day, filling it to beyond capacity. Most of the flights are planes that were not able to land in the airport in Port-au-Prince, according to Ginny Heinsen who is coordinating the collection center operating with help from the United Nations, the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute, private plane owners and the Dominican Naval Auxiliary, according to Hoy newspaper.
