Reformist deputy Rafael Molina Lluberes has submitted a bill requesting President Leonel Fernandez to review the gold mining contract signed between the state and Barrick Gold. The legislator says that the contract goes against the national interest, as reported in Hoy. Molina is urging the government to convene a group of specialists to examine what he describes as "incongruence" in the contract. He said that the previous contract with Placer Dome was a better one for the Dominican government. He said the new contract means the state would receive US$1.2 billion less.
