On Friday, President Leonel Fernandez sent a bill to the Senate that seeks to modify Law 4314 that regulates residential and commercial rentals in the DR. The law dates back to 1955, and was modified by Law 17-88 in 1988. The bill was sent to a commission headed by senators Amilcar Romero (PLD-Duarte) and Tommy Galan (PLD-San Cristobal). The bill includes clauses that would yield funds to support farming. Banco Agricola Administrator Paino Abreu says that the old law requires tenants renting a property to make deposits at the Banco Agricola, the farmers bank, but this is rarely fulfilled.
