Centro Cuesta Nacional (CCN) and Santo Domingo Motors have come together to build the Agora Shopping Mall. The mall is under construction at Abraham Lincoln Avenue, at the intersection with John F. Kennedy. The mall will be across the road from the new IKEA store, due to open in February, and the expanded Americana Departamentos. The mall covers 120,000 square meters of construction and will contain 180 stores. At the pre-sales stage, spokesperson Silvia Rosales says that 60% have already been allocated. The mall will include branches of the Jumbo hypermarket and Centro Comercial Cuesta, and the stores are for rent, not for sale. Rosales announced that Agora would be the DR's first "green mall", for its low environmental impact and its design that meets Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (Leed) standards, developed by the US Green Building Council. The design of the infrastructure was carried out by Pavlik Design, of the US, that specializes in construction of malls around the world.
Agora has a projected opening date of late 2011. It will have 4 stories and a parking tower with capacity for 1400 vehicles.
