A homerun by Alexi Castilla made the difference in the first game of the Professional Winter Baseball Championship, with the regular season champions Gigantes del Cibao defeating the Escogido in the first game 2-1. The homerun was batted against none less than Francisco Cordero, the Major Leagues star pitcher during the game at the Gigantes' Julian Javier stadium in San Francisco de Macoris. The teams will now play at the Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo, as of 7:30pm. Nerio Rodriguez is the opening pitcher for the Escogido, and Aquilino Lopez for the Gigantes. On Wednesday, 20 January, the teams play at 7:30pm at the Julian Javier Stadium in San Francisco de Macoris.
