The Emergency Operations Center and other public safety organizations are on alert for emergencies over the holiday celebrating the nation's patroness, Our Lady of High Grace. The operation begins at 2pm today and will end at 8pm on Thursday. According to sources at the COE, 3,021 people will be stationed at strategic points along the roads leading to Higuey, in the East, the main pilgrimage destination. 65 aid posts will treat accident victims and 24 ambulances will be available. One helicopter will be in service. A medical office and two ambulances will be available within the cathedral grounds in Higuey to respond to any emergency that may occur. As is usual in these circumstances, the COE is supported by units from the Office of the President's Administrative Secretary, the Presidential Press Office, the Armed Forces, the National Police, the Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET), and the ministries of Public Health, Public Works, the Red Cross and local fire departments.
