Foreign Relations Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso has announced that an extraordinary assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) is being planned for Santo Domingo. This meeting is part of the process of coordinating the reconstruction of Haiti. The Foreign Minister told Hoy newspaper that after Monday's "Summit for a Better Future for Haiti" held in the Presidential Palace, another meeting was held with OAS secretary general Jose Miguel Insulza to discuss the possibility of holding a hemispheric meeting here. As he supplied details of the steps to be followed after the Summit that will allow the focusing of the overwhelming goodwill towards Haiti and the large numbers of international proposals for reconstruction, Morales Troncoso said that after the Montreal meeting on 25 January, the next OAS assembly could take place here, "although no date has been set."
