The General Hospital at Plaza de la Salud is preparing its Crisis and Trauma Care teams to provide psychological assistance to Dominicans and Haitians affected by the earthquake that hit Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas last Tuesday. The free treatment will initially start at the Plaza de la Salud Primary Care Center, but will then move on to Jimani where there are hundreds of people who were affected by the disaster. There will be a specialized unit for treating children. The announcement was made by Dr Julio Amado Castanos Guzman, president of the General Hospital's Board of Trustees. Dr Castanos said that the psychological aftermath begins to surface at this stage. He called on the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization to support these efforts.
