The Seismological Institute at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) reported that major tremors have been felt in Cuba and Haiti, and in the Dominican Republic yesterday. On Wednesday morning at 7:04 a strong quake was felt in Santiago, reported to be a 6.1 located west of Port-au-Prince. Institute director Eugenio Polanco told reporters that the frequency of the tremors was slowing down as the days go by, but that there have been more than 300 aftershocks since the 7.0 earthquake last week in Haiti. Polanco said that these aftershocks would continue to occur as the earth's crust adjusts itself. No damages were reported in the DR.
