Catholic bishops are encouraging Dominicans to keep up their humanitarian support for Haiti. In their traditional pastoral letter for the Day of the Virgin of High Grace, the Dominican Conference of Bishops expressed its sorrow "for the difficult situation of the Haitian people and we join with them in prayer which is our strength."
"We call upon both the national as well as the international community, in order for all the assistance possible to flow from all towards the neighboring country, the poorest on the continent," said the text that will be read in all Catholic churches tomorrow. They said that "nature itself makes us open our eyes to the extreme poverty in which so many of our brothers live," and they call upon the faithful "to continue doing the good deeds of solidarity."
