The Fourth Collegiate Court in the National District has sentenced to three years in jail a man who had plastic surgery to change his fingerprints and obtain a visa to travel to the US.
Diario Libre reports that Modesto Antonio Martinez Lopez was banned from traveling to the US. In his attempt to pass as Ramon Marte, he replaced the prints on his 10 fingers. Judge Ingrid Fernandez found Martinez Lopez guilty of violating Arts. 7, 13 of Law 8-92 that penalize identity forgery with 3 to 10 years in jail. Martinez Lopez admitted to the crime. The attempt was detected on 14 January 2009 when he applied for a visa at the Consulate. He was arrested by agents of the National Department of Investigations.
