Supreme Court (SCJ) chief justice Jorge Subero Isa has announced that next week he would present the sentences issued by the judges of Instruction for the National District and the province of Santo Domingo, ordering the release of Pedro Alejandro Castillo (Quirinito) and the gang of paid killers who were accused of murdering 12 people. Subero Isa said that he had done a quick reading of the decisions and he said that he would go over them once again before putting them before the entire court so that they can decide what to do in these cases. He pointed out that in a democratic regime and a democratic judicial system, "lower court judges do not consult higher court magistrates."
He argued that judges make their decisions in accordance with what the law says, and these decisions are subject to criticism, something that does not occur in a dictatorship. He described the decisions handed down by judges Rene Rosario and Jose Alejandro Vargas as "tsunamis", a reference to their ripple effect in Dominican justice.
