The Gigantes del Cibao, led by outstanding pitching from Aquilino Lopez, Waldis Joaquin, Antonio Bastardo, Joel Peralta and Dario Veras managed to shut out the Leones del Escogido, 1-0, in an exciting game at the venerable Estadio Quisqueya. For the first time in 49 games in the regular series, 14 games of the Round Robin and the first game of this final series, the Leones could not score a run. Lopez, who was almost matched pitch for pitch by his rival Nerio Rodriguez, threw 6 innings of near-perfect baseball. Rodriguez pitched great baseball for 5 innings, but in the sixth Wilson Valdez opened the inning with a bunt single, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from the pitcher to first, by Lucas Montero. Alexi Casilla hit a line drive to center field, scoring the game's only run.
The Gigantes now lead the final best of 9 playoffs by 2 games to none.
Tonight the series goes back to San Francisco de Macoris.
