The Presidency Press Office reports on President Leonel Fernandez's visit to Japan (1 July to 4 July). The President made a state call on Their Majesties The Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko in a special audience at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, and met with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and Yohei Kono, the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The President exchanged views with members of the Japan-Dominican Republic Parliamentary Friendship League, representatives from economic circles, and others. The President was also scheduled to attend and address a Dominican Republic Investment Seminar. He is due to visit the Technological Center for Nippon Electric and officials of the Japanese Cooperation Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).


The Presidency also reported on his visit to Panasonic where the President told an audience of executives that the country is changing from a labor-intensive to a capital-intensive economy, which is more specialized and with greater emphasis on training its human resources.


The Presidency reported that the President highlighted that the DR offers many advantages for investors, including its geographical position, a short distance from the US market, and the fact that the country is a signatory of the DR-CAFTA agreement.
