The Dominican consulate in New York has increased the cost of Dominican passports and other documentation in order to compensate for the decrease in earnings as a result of the elimination of the consular invoice required for imports to the Dominican Republic. A passport purchased there now costs US$189 (US$50 more), powers of attorney have gone up from US$100 to US$150, and authorizations for minors have increased from US$45 to US$75. A consular invoice used to cost US$190 per export. Listin Diario political analyst Orlando Gil writes about the multiple protests received at the consulate, which is known to have an excessive number of staff.
