More than 15,000 Haitians, injured during the catastrophic quake of 13 January have received medical care at Dominican hospitals, said Public health Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez. He said that a large percentage had suffered amputations when buildings collapsed on them. He said that a solution was found for homeless Haitian patients needing hospital care - they will be sent to the Haitian town of Fond Parisien, 7kms from the Dominican border and 20kms from Jimani, the largest Dominican town near the border on the Port-au-Prince route. A medical station has been set up there, with capacity for 3,000 patients. Patients in Santo Domingo, Barahona, Azua and Bani who need to be hospitalized for their recovery will be transferred to Fond Parisien.
