La Romana judge Marcia Reyes has announced that Ramon Antonio del Rosario Puente, known better as Tono Lena, is a fugitive from justice. While out on bail, he had the obligation to report to the authorities, but he has skipped bail. He had been arrested and sent to jail for his ties with Puerto Rican fugitive drug trafficker Jose Figueroa Agosto. Tono Lena is also said to have led an alleged plot to murder Rolando Rosado Mateo, chief of the National Drug Control Department, DNCD.
Hoy newspaper reports that Santiago prosecutor Jenny Berenice Reynoso commented on a similar situation that affects Santiago. She says that an estimated 1,200 have skipped bail in Santiago, of which more than 60% were arrested on drug trafficking charges. She said she disagrees with granting bail because in most cases they just disappear.
The Supreme Court of Justice announced it has suspended for serious faults judge Rodolfo Orlando Frias of La Romana for releasing Del Rosario Puente on bail.
