The already infamous death of humorist, composer, musician and television producer Milton Pelaez at the home of a "friend" was apparently, according to family lawyers, over a debt of some RD$450,000. The accused, Plutarco Ernesto Gonzalez Cedeno, had told the police that the pistol went off "by accident" as he tried to shoo away a dog that was blocking the door to the house. According to Listin Diario, the police have discarded the accidental discharge scenario. One newspaper called the shooting "at close range." During the day, dozens of versions of the case circulated on radio and television talk shows. In today's newspapers, the humorist's former wife told reporters that Pelaez had gone to the house to collect the final payment of a large debt. The burial will take place at four o'clock this afternoon.
