[DR1] Subero Isa gets support from lawyers

Supreme Court Chief Justice Jorge Subero Isa has received the support of the Dominican Bar Association and the Antillean Bar Association in response to his call yesterday for judges to refrain from participating as consultants or lobbyists. He called on magistrates who were asked for these favors to report the case to the Supreme Court. He also pointed out that magistrates who did do outside consulting and lobbying for clients were in violation of the Law governing Judicial Organization. The lawyers' groups called on Subero Isa to identify the magistrates and put them before the courts. Julio Cesar Terrero Carvajal, the Dominican Bar Association president, said that the statements made by Subero Isa cast a pale over the entire justice system. Terrero Carvajal, also a member of the National Judiciary School, commented that if Subero Isa makes these statements in a written report, it is because he has received information that there are judges that divulge secrets contained in judicial decisions and lobby in other courtrooms.
