An average of 90 rapes are reported at the District Attorney's Department of Santo Domingo Province every month, and a monthly average of 40 gender violence cases are also reported. These figures were disclosed by District Attorney Perfecto Acosta, who said that the Department of Sex Offenses gets between four and five cases daily. Many of the alleged rapes turn out to be seductions after examination and questionings. Diario Libre reports that some people are falsely accused as a means of extortion. The Gender Violence and Sexual Abuse Unit has three psychologists, four attorneys and two forensic physicians to look after these cases.
