The Chamber of Deputies has approved a US$60 million commercial bank loan to finance vehicles for the National Police, as reported in El Caribe. The agreement was signed with the Banco Vizcaya Argentaria de Espana. Another loan agreement was taken on with the Deutsche Bank for EU14,293,528 to finance mobile clinics in border towns. No tenders were held in either of these cases. The loans are of the kind taken on during the previous administration that doubled the national debt. Congress approval results in very profitable commissions for those who lobby for the loans, regardless of whether these are disbursed.
