The Ministry of Youth, in cooperation with the Municipality of Santo Domingo, is going ahead with its plan to provide hot spots for free wi-fi access in some parts of the city. As reported in Diario Libre, the first beneficiaries will be the state university UASD, sections of Gazcue, Bella Vista, Evaristo Morales, Matahambre, Centro de los Heroes and the areas adjacent to the 27 de Febrero Boulevard. The project will reportedly have the capacity to serve 17,000 connected computers at the same time. To access the system, the computer must be wi-fi enabled and a user password is required.
