Yesterday, the court rejected all incidents presented by the five accused in the alleged fraud of the collapsed Banco Intercontinental (Baninter), and ordered that the hearings should continue next Friday, 14 July, at 10:00am. Clave Digital reports that after three hours of deliberations, judges Antonio Sanchez Mejia, Pilar Rufino and Giselle Mendez unanimously decided to reject the opposition recourse filed by former vice president of the bank, Marcos Antonio Baez Cocco, who was supported by the other four accused. Baez Cocco was seeking that the court grant additional time for the court's secretary to notify all parties of the order in which evidence would be presented at the trial. The judges considered, however, that the extension was not necessary, as the evidence had been discussed in the instruction phase of the case. Accused in the fraud case stand Ramon Baez Figueroa, Vivian Lubrano de Castillo, Luis Alvarez Renta, Jesus Maria Troncoso Ferrua and Marcos Baez Cocco. The Baninter collapse is said to have cost the Dominican state and taxpayers more than RD$74 billion since it was uncovered in 2003, states Clave Digital.
