Former Central Bank Governor Jose Enrique Lois Malkun has filed an inadmissibility recourse against the accusation made by former banker and president of the collapsed Baninter bank, Ramon Baez Figueroa, regarding his handling of the reimbursement of deposits to the bank's clients, in contravention of the Monetary Law, according to a report by Clave Digital. Malkun presented a document at the District Attorney's Department indicating that he had acted in accordance with the Monetary and Finance Law which states that "no personal action, civil or criminal, can be presented against staff who offer their services in the Monetary and Financial Administration for acts carried out during the exercise of their duties as stated in this law without previously having obtained a definite and irrevocable judicial resolution declaring the nullity of the specific administrative act in which the person participated". Baez is accusing Malkun of failing to observe the legal framework when reimbursing Baninter's deposits.
