President Leonel Fernandez has sent a EUR 116 million (approximately RD$4.6 million) loan request to the Senate to cover the cost of purchasing and installing the mobile structures for the Santo Domingo Metro. It calls for a loan from the Sociedad BNP Paribas, one of the largest international banking networks, and another unnamed commercial bank, as reported in Hoy newspaper. These are the first international loans the government has requested for the construction of the metro. Hoy also mentions that the government has spent RD$2.5 million on the construction to date. The PLD ruling party will have a majority in the Senate and Chamber of Deputies as of 16 August 2006.
