The Association of Dominican Pharmaceutical Industries (Infadomi) warned yesterday that the prices of medicine could increase by as much as 300% if United States companies are able to monopolize that market with the "distorted interpretation" of DR-CAFTA, as reported by El Caribe. Infadomi representatives understand that the interpretations offered by US companies about the FTA between the DR and the US imply that Dominican pharmaceutical industries would have to leave the market, leading to the cessation of local production. Infadomi Executive Director, Laura Castellanos, said that this situation would imply that medicine prices could increase by as much as 300% because US products are proportionally that much more expensive compared to domestically produced products.
