Cultural Capital of the Americas

President Leonel Fernandez will launch the year of Santo Domingo as Cultural Capital of the Americas from the Presidential Palace at 11am today. Culture Minister Jose Rafael Lantigua and the president of the Bureau of Cultural Capitals of the Americas Xavier Tudela, together with Santo Domingo Mayor Roberto Salcedo and Monsignor Agripino Nunez Collado of the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra, which initially sponsored the event, will be attending the inauguration ceremony. The year was to have been launched in January, but the event was postponed when the government's attention turned to solidarity efforts with Haiti following the 12 January earthquake.
