In another, perhaps more serious matter, the possible nomination of Julio Romero, an admitted pederast, will be investigated by the JCE if it does take place. Castanos Guzman did say however, that if there is no conviction for a felony, a person does not lose his right to stand for election. Feminist groups are challenging the PRD to revoke Julio Romero's pre-candidacy for deputy, after he admitted to getting an underage girl pregnant, denying paternity and failing to provide child support. When the scandal was exposed, Romero argued that this was common practice in the DR and he had done nothing out of the ordinary. The protesters were led by gynecologist Lilliam Fondeur and Lourdes Contreras, director of the gender studies department at INTEC University.
