It's in Juan Dolio, not Santo Domingo. Haven't found out if it's chica friendly. Still working on it.

Yes, Plaza Real is CHICA FRIENDLY!! Was $50 a night as of a few months ago.

Yayow's recommendation of the Roma is the best bet. Get reservations early as they are sometimes filled. They don't take credit cards so plan for that. The Discovery is another option for that price. Do a search on the board here. There is a thread about the Discovery.

I prefer the Jaguar Hotel. It's about a 10 minute walk from Plaza Independencia (away from the Conde) but well located for the chica bars. It's on the same street as Manolo's about a block and one-half from the Jaragua Casino. It's a five minute walk to "305" Bar (my new favorite thanks to Yayow), Girl's House, Sky Bar and Lapsus. Also a short walk to the colmado next to Casona Dorado, the Coppa nightclub in the Melia or the late night street walkers on Independencia. Rates are $45-60 for big room, fridge, internet, cable, a/c and the owner, Rafael, is english speaking and really helpful. 809-688-2125

Excellent choice! I've stayed there too and Raphael is one of the good guys in town. Great location......close to all the amenities you'll need. Rooms are nice and comfortable. The university is just down the road, so a good place to hone your chica skills!
