After several days of heated debate about the exact cause of the accident that took the lives of a dozen people when a bus crashed into the sea, the District Attorney for the National District ordered the exhumation of the body of the driver, Roberto Familia. Familia had been buried before an autopsy could be performed.
According to pathologist Sergio Sarita Valdez, the driver suffered a massive myocardial infarction (heart attack) that caused his almost-instant death while driving the vehicle. According to Hoy newspaper, the victim had suffered from arteriosclerosis for some time. Reports also emerged claiming that Familia had suffered several heart attacks in the past.
