The rescue of an 11-month old baby girl following the arrest of 6 women has filled the La Pina barrio with joy. The baby girl was found safe and sound in the Herrera section of Santo Domingo West 4 days after she was kidnapped from her home in Cienfuegos. Her mother, Josefina, was so desperate that she even tried to walk back to Santiago from her place of employment at Kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway.
The 6 women who were arrested include two minors of 13 and 17 who were paid RD$1,000 to take the baby and promised another RD$20,000 when the baby was out of the country.
One of the women is supposedly a lawyer who works for the Migration Department.
After the baby was returned to her mother's arms, the happy pair was paraded through the dusty streets of the barrio where an impromptu religious ceremony was held to celebrate the joyous event.
