For years there have been landslides in the Septentrional Mountains along the north coast of the Dominican Republic, often with tragic consequences. Now experts are calling for measures to be taken to prevent more disasters as the rainy season approaches. In recent months there have been landslides in Carlos Diaz, Palo Quemado and Marivasque, near the south side of Mount Isabel de Torre, in the Puerto Plata and Santiago areas. Engineer and geologist Orlando Franco says that these events are the result of numerous fault lines in the area.
