The 350-strong Dominican delegation to the Central American and Caribbean Sports Games visited the Presidential Palace yesterday. The summer regional games will take place 15 to 30 July in Cartagena, Colombia. President Fernandez wished the team success and encouraged them to bring back many medals.
The Dominican team will compete in 30 sports. In the 2002 Games, the DR won 132 medals, including 35 gold, 38 silver and 59 bronze, coming fourth in the overall rankings. Nevertheless, Cuba did not compete that year. In the 1998 Games won by Cuba, the DR won 72 medals, including seven gold.
