The aero-navigability director at the Civil Aviation Board, 58-year old Angel Christopher Martinez, was murdered near his home on Tuesday. The Police suspects that contract killers carried out the murder that may have been job related.

What is known is that one of two men on a motorcycle shot him in his left side while he was driving his vehicle to work from his Alma Rosa Segunda home.

General Rafael Bencosme Candelier, who is heading the Police investigation, has appointed a commission of investigators.

Martinez was in charge of coordinating airplane inspection and supervision and issuing licenses to pilots. He was working on an investigation into the quality of the aircraft used for domestic flights, especially those flying into the La Isabela International Airport (AILI - Joaquin Balaguer International) and had inspected three companies.

Press reports indicate that Martinez suspected that he was being followed and had reported this to the police on 22 June after being stopped by two individuals who driving in a double-cabin pickup identified themselves as police agents and requested he present identification and then just apologized and left. When he reported this strange incident he was told that no patrol had been assigned to that area. The incident occurred near where he was eventually murdered.

As reported in Hoy, Christopher Martinez was highly regarded in his department for his professionalism and honesty at work.
