Amidst uproar by citizens who have denounced the fact that narcotics agents in Bonao were working closely with drug dealers, the governor of Monsenor Nouel province has appointed a new National Drug Control Department team. The Police commander and his agents were replaced earlier this week. Bonao's residents are rejecting the stronghold that drug traffickers have established in the city, which has led to unprecedented levels of violent crime.
Bonao parish priest Francisco Jimenez denounced that agents of the DNCD were protecting the drug dealers. Hoy newspaper interviewed several in the city that said this was a common practice with the complacency of the authorities.
